You’ll need a big bag of popcorn for Midnight Run (1988, rated R, 126 minutes).
You don’t have to take any notes, it’s a comedy-action thriller with several wait-for-it scenes, one scene with lots of bullets (all misses, go figure!), some almost-deep theory-of-life talk in a moving boxcar in Arizona, a fair amount of tough guy talk, some bonding that’s almost friendship, and a predictable, heart-warming ending.
Robert De Niro is Jack Walsh, the shallow bounty-hunter who always gets his man, and Jack plans to keep his string intact by bringing in Charles Grodin (the “Duke”) before the mob can get him.
You can easily guess how the story unfolds, and how it ends. Of course, the various good guys win, and you’ll end up with a big smile on your face.
