As a big-time “fixer” for a wayward company, Michael Clayton (George Clooney) knows all about right and wrong and fixing mostly little things before they become serious trouble. He takes his main chance to fix a big thing in Michael Clayton (2007, rated R, 119 minutes)—Clooney got an Oscar nomination for Best Actor, and he makes the movie a Clooney masterpiece.

Clooney is front and center in nearly every scene. He gets up close and personal with truth and lies, and fear, and righteous anger, and compassion, and dignity, and messy relationships, and finally doing the right thing. He shows how it’s done even when you don’t know how to do it.
Tilda Swinton got a Best Supporting Actress Oscar for her role as Karen Crowder, the ambitious corporate exec who sets the dogs on Clayton until he figures out how to bite back.
Michel Clayton ends up where you know it’s going to end up, and Clooney’s potent performance makes you want to keep on watching. His silent ride in the taxi at the end of the film is almost the best part of the masterpiece.
