DESCRIPTION:Photographer Karin Rosenthal’s exhibit Reflections on the Human Journey will be on display at the BFL from March 19 to April 29. This exhibit draws from two of her series: In Reflection and Tide Pool.  You can also enjoy this exhibit (with even more of Karin’s photographs) at The Center for Arts in Natick (TCAN) in May.  \n  \n\n \n \n \n\n \n Dancer Triptych\, 2007Primordial Soup\, 2006Conversation\, 2022Granite Woman I\, 20103. Phantom\, 2020 \n\n \n \n \n \n  \nKarin Rosenthal’s abstract photographs of nudes in nature have been exhibited internationally\, collected widely\, and reside in 17 museum collections\, including Boston’s MFA\, the Brooklyn Museum\, the International Center of Photography (ICP)\, and the Yale University Art Gallery (YUAG). These photos have won numerous international awards and have been shown and sold at the prestigious Association of International Photography Art Dealers (AIPAD) exposition in NYC.  Karin’s photographic submission in First Doubt: Optical Confusion in Modern Photography at YUAG was selected to represent the show of 100 images by famous 20th Century photographers and was featured in the New York Times review.   \nAt the Griffin Museum of Photography in 2016\, she curated 37 Photographers/One Model with nudes in nature by her and her workshop students of a male dancer in his fifties\, overturning conventions of nude photography.  As a Resident Artist/Scholar at Brandeis University’s Women’s Studies Research Center\, she initiated and oversaw an exhibition of photographs by Vivian Maier in 2013.  In 2018-2019\, she exhibited at Brandeis’ Kniznick Gallery in a two-person show\, Half-Silvered. A book entitled Karin Rosenthal: Twenty Years of Photographs was published in conjunction with a retrospective of her Nudes in Water series at the Danforth Museum in 2000. \nLearn more about Karin on her website\, Facebook\, and Instagram. \n  \n

SUMMARY:Nonfiction Book Club
DESCRIPTION:  \nThis month\, we will discuss The Art Thief: a true story of passion\, obsession\, and a monumental crime spree by Michael Finkel.  \n \nFrom MichaelFinkel.com: The Art Thief chronicles one of the most outrageous crime sprees in history: In the late 1990s and early 2000s\, Stéphane Breitwieser stole from more than 200 museums and galleries across Europe\, amassing a collection worth an estimated $2 billion. He never resorted to violence – his audacious thefts all occurred during daylight hours\, most with the aid of his girlfriend\, Anne-Catherine Kleinklaus\, who served as lookout. And unlike nearly every other art thief\, Breitwieser did not steal for money. He displayed his treasures in a secret lair where he and his girlfriend could admire them. Yet even more astounding than his crimes is the spectacular events that brought everything crashing down.  \nThe Art Thief\, based on a series of exclusive interviews with Breitwieser\, the first he has ever granted to an American journalist\, details a riveting story of love\, crime\, and an insatiable hunger to possess beauty at any cost. \n  \nCopies of this book are available at the library.  \n  \nOur discussion will be on Zoom.  Please register here to receive the meeting details: \n  \n\n \n \n Nonfiction Book Club Registration - April 2026\n \n \n your nameemail*\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Δ

SUMMARY:Cinéphile Mondays
DESCRIPTION:Cinephilia is an academic word literally meaning “love of cinema\,” but it also contains hints of nostalgia and passion for a film art that was undoubtedly the defining media experience of the twentieth century. \nAs such\, cinema has a variegated and fascinating history which extends well beyond the Hollywood we are all familiar with.  Meant as a tribute to the film art around the world\, from the days of silent cinema to the new waves and beyond\, our cinephile Mondays is a slow and tasteful appreciation of the First Century of Cinema.  The films will be selected on the basis of their relevance for the development of the film art.  On the last Monday of the month\, cinephiles of the world unite!  \nWatch a movie at home and then join Film history & Media studies Professor MV for a virtual discussion. \n\n\nFor Monday April 27\, we will be discussing: \nBlow-Up by Michelangelo Antonioni\,  Italy 1966. \n\n\nCriterion DVD available in the MLN HERE\n\n \nIf you are interested in attending this Zoom discussion\, please contact Graziella at glesellier@minlib.net
