SUMMARY:Cinéphile Mondays
DESCRIPTION:Cinephilia is an academic word literally meaning “love of cinema\,” but it also contains hints of nostalgia and passion for a film art that was undoubtedly the defining media experience of the twentieth century. \nAs such\, cinema has a variegated and fascinating history which extends well beyond the Hollywood we are all familiar with.  Meant as a tribute to the film art around the world\, from the days of silent cinema to the new waves and beyond\, our cinephile Mondays is a slow and tasteful appreciation of the First Century of Cinema.  The films will be selected on the basis of their relevance for the development of the film art.  On the last Monday of the month\, cinephiles of the world unite!  \nWatch a movie at home and then join Film history & Media studies Professor MV for a virtual discussion. \nFor Monday June 26 \nWe will be discussing: Citizen Kane by Orson Welles\, USA 1941 \nAvailable on DVD in the Minuteman Network HERE \nIf you are interested in attending this Zoom discussion\, please contact Graziella at glesellier@minlib.net

SUMMARY:Nancy Horan in Conversation with Therese Fowler (Virtual)
DESCRIPTION:Nancy Horan\, author of the million-copy New York Times bestseller Loving Frank\, returns with her new book The House of Lincoln\, a sweeping historical novel\, which tells the story of Abraham Lincoln’s ascendance from rumpled lawyer to U.S. president to the Great Emancipator through the eyes of a young asylum-seeker who arrives in Lincoln’s home of Springfield from Madeira\, Portugal.  \nJoin Nancy Horan and Therese Fowler as they discuss The House of Lincoln\, which will be published June 6. \n \nNancy Horan’s previous books include Loving Frank (2007)\, which chronicles a little-known chapter in the life of legendary American architect Frank Lloyd Wright\, and his client\, Mamah Cheney; and Under the Wide and Starry Sky (2014)\, which explores the unlikely relationship of Robert Louis Stevenson and his spirited American wife\, Fanny Van de Grift Stevenson.  A native Midwesterner\, Nancy Horan was a Chicago journalist before turning to fiction writing.
