SUMMARY:Mystery Book Club with Author Erica Ferencik
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a special virtual Mystery Book Club discussion of Girl in Ice\, where we will be joined by author Erica Ferencik! This event will be held over Zoom. Please email cstirling@minlib.net to register and receive the Zoom link. \n  \n \nAward-winning novelist Erica Ferencik has received glowing critical praise for her literary thrillers featuring women who face extreme physical challenges in nature\, even as they grapple with internal struggles. \nDevoted to authenticity in her craft\, Erica spent weeks in the wilderness of northern Maine as research for her debut novel\, The River at Night\, an Indie Next Pick that New York Times bestselling author Ruth Ware called “raw\, relentless\, and heart-poundingly real.” For her “hair-raisingly vivid” (Kirkus) follow-up\, Into the Jungle\, Ferencik journeyed a hundred miles up the Amazon to experience firsthand the lush and perilous Peruvian jungle. \nNow\, inspired and informed by a month-long trip to Greenland\, Ferencik sets the New York Times\, Los Angeles Times\, and Wall Street Journal’s editors’ pick\, GIRL IN ICE\, in one of the most unforgiving\, unforgettable landscapes imaginable. \nRaised in New York\, she currently lives in Massachusetts. Learn more at her website.

SUMMARY:Cinéphile Mondays
DESCRIPTION:Cinephilia is an academic word literally meaning “love of cinema\,” but it also contains hints of nostalgia and passion for a film art that was undoubtedly the defining media experience of the twentieth century. \nAs such\, cinema has a variegated and fascinating history which extends well beyond the Hollywood we are all familiar with.  Meant as a tribute to the film art around the world\, from the days of silent cinema to the new waves and beyond\, our cinephile Mondays is a slow and tasteful appreciation of the First Century of Cinema.  The films will be selected on the basis of their relevance for the development of the film art.  On the last Monday of the month\, cinephiles of the world unite!  \nWatch a movie at home and then join Film history & Media studies Professor MV for a virtual discussion. \nFor Monday June 27\n \nwe will be discussing: \nPersona by Ingmar Bergman\, Sweden 1966 \nAvailable on DVD through the Minuteman Network  \nPersona / Janus Films ; Svensk Filmindustri ; en film av Ingmar Bergman \nPersona / en film av Ingmar Bergman ; Svensk Filmindustri \n\n\n\nIf you are interested in attending this Zoom discussion\, please contact Graziella at glesellier@minlib.net
