SUMMARY:Nonfiction book club
DESCRIPTION:  \nJoin us for a discussion of  Summer World: A Season of Bounty by Bernd Heinrich. \nBernd Heinrich is an emeritus professor of biology at the University of Vermont and according to the New York Times book review\, “has an uncanny ability to find something intellectually stimulating whenever he steps out the door.   While Heinrich considers insects magical for doing so much with a pinpoint-size brain\, the entomologist himself is a Dumbledore of the forest — magical himself for his ability to conjure a riot of life from what others less attuned might consider your standard Northern woodlot.” \nCopies of this book are available at the library; please call (508-653-6730) or email (bflpickups@gmail.com) to arrange for curbside pickup. \nOur discussion will be held over Zoom. Please register to receive the meeting information. \n\n\n \n \n Nonfiction Book Club Registration - August 23\, 2025\n \n \n your nameemail*\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Δ

SUMMARY:Cinéphile Mondays
DESCRIPTION:Cinephilia is an academic word literally meaning “love of cinema\,” but it also contains hints of nostalgia and passion for a film art that was undoubtedly the defining media experience of the twentieth century. \nAs such\, cinema has a variegated and fascinating history which extends well beyond the Hollywood we are all familiar with.  Meant as a tribute to the film art around the world\, from the days of silent cinema to the new waves and beyond\, our cinephile Mondays is a slow and tasteful appreciation of the First Century of Cinema.  The films will be selected on the basis of their relevance for the development of the film art.  On the last Monday of the month\, cinephiles of the world unite!  \nWatch a movie at home and then join Film history & Media studies Professor MV for a virtual discussion. \nFor Monday July 26\nwe will be discussing: \nThe Passion of Joan of Arc by Theodor Dreyer\, 1928 \nRequest your own DVD copy  HERE  \nAvailable on Kanopy for a few libraries. Check HERE \n\n\n\nIf you are interested in attending this Zoom discussion\, please contact Graziella at glesellier@minlib.net

SUMMARY:Book Club
DESCRIPTION:This month\, as part of the Natick Community Read\, we’ll be discussing How to Be a Good Creature: A Memoir in Thirteen Animals by Sy Montgomery.  In this memoir\, Montgomery draws on her experience as a naturalist and adventurer to reflect on the unique personalities of 13 specific animals and the truths revealed by their grace. She explores much larger themes as well: the otherness and sameness of people and animals; the various ways we learn to love and become empathetic; how we find our passion; how we create our families; coping with loss and despair; gratitude; forgiveness; and most of all\, how to be a good creature in the world. (From symontgomery.com) \nCopies of the book are available at the library for curbside pickup.  \nGet the ebook here. \nGet the audio book here. \n**See next month’s book here. \n  \nThis discussion will be held over Zoom meeting. Please register to receive the meeting details.
