SUMMARY:Nonfiction Book Club
DESCRIPTION:  \nThis month\, we will discuss The Art Thief: a true story of passion\, obsession\, and a monumental crime spree by Michael Finkel.  \n \nFrom MichaelFinkel.com: The Art Thief chronicles one of the most outrageous crime sprees in history: In the late 1990s and early 2000s\, Stéphane Breitwieser stole from more than 200 museums and galleries across Europe\, amassing a collection worth an estimated $2 billion. He never resorted to violence – his audacious thefts all occurred during daylight hours\, most with the aid of his girlfriend\, Anne-Catherine Kleinklaus\, who served as lookout. And unlike nearly every other art thief\, Breitwieser did not steal for money. He displayed his treasures in a secret lair where he and his girlfriend could admire them. Yet even more astounding than his crimes is the spectacular events that brought everything crashing down.  \nThe Art Thief\, based on a series of exclusive interviews with Breitwieser\, the first he has ever granted to an American journalist\, details a riveting story of love\, crime\, and an insatiable hunger to possess beauty at any cost. \n  \nCopies of this book are available at the library.  \n  \nOur discussion will be on Zoom.  Please register here to receive the meeting details: \n  \n\n\n \n \n Nonfiction Book Club Registration - April 2026\n \n \n your nameemail*\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Δ

SUMMARY:Cinéphile Mondays
DESCRIPTION:Cinephilia is an academic word literally meaning “love of cinema\,” but it also contains hints of nostalgia and passion for a film art that was undoubtedly the defining media experience of the twentieth century. \nAs such\, cinema has a variegated and fascinating history which extends well beyond the Hollywood we are all familiar with.  Meant as a tribute to the film art around the world\, from the days of silent cinema to the new waves and beyond\, our cinephile Mondays is a slow and tasteful appreciation of the First Century of Cinema.  The films will be selected on the basis of their relevance for the development of the film art.  On the last Monday of the month\, cinephiles of the world unite!  \nWatch a movie at home and then join Film history & Media studies Professor MV for a virtual discussion. \n\n\nFor Monday April 27\, we will be discussing: \nBlow-Up by Michelangelo Antonioni\,  Italy 1966. \n\n\nCriterion DVD available in the MLN HERE\n\n \nIf you are interested in attending this Zoom discussion\, please contact Graziella at glesellier@minlib.net

SUMMARY:Nonfiction Book Club
DESCRIPTION:**Please note: this month we are meeting on the 5th Saturday in order to avoid Memorial Day weekend** \n  \nThis month\, we will discuss Cabin: off the grid adventures with a clueless craftsman by Patrick Hutchison.  \nAccording to Macmillan Publishers: \nWit’s End isn’t just a state of mind. It’s the name of a gravel road\, the address of a run-down off-the-grid cabin\, 120 shabby square feet of fixer-upper Patrick Hutchison purchased on a whim in the mossy woods of the Cascade Mountains in Washington state. \nTo say Hutchison didn’t know what he was getting into is no more an exaggeration than to say he’s a man with nearly zero carpentry skills. Well\, used to be. You can learn a lot over six years of renovations. \nCABIN is the story of those renovations\, but it’s also a love story; of a place\, of possibilities\, and of the process of construction\, of seeing what could be instead of what is. It is a book for those who know what it’s like to bite off more than you can chew\, or who desperately wish to. \n  \nCopies of this book are available at the library.  \n  \nOur discussion will be on Zoom.  Please register here to receive the meeting details: \n  \n\n \n \n Nonfiction Book Club Registration - May 2026\n \n \n your nameemail*\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Δ

SUMMARY:VIRTUAL: Celebrating 250 - The Intoxicating History Of The American Revolution
DESCRIPTION:**PLEASE NOTE THIS IS A VIRTUAL PROGRAM THAT WILL TAKE PLACE VIA ZOOM. Registrants will receive a link to access the Zoom Webinar via email.** \nEighteenth-century Americans consumed a staggering amount of alcohol compared to us today. Drink influenced their politics\, built and sustained their relationships\, and drove the economy. Booze was not a small part of colonial society\, nor covertly consumed in private spaces—it was integral to American life. When the colonists rebelled against the British Empire\, this culture of drink and taverns helped foster revolution. Join historian Brooke Barbier\, author of Cocked and and Boozy: An Intoxicated History of the American Revolution\, for a lively talk about the influence of tavern and drinking culture on the American Revolution. You’ll hear about the way alcohol influenced colonial resistance\, soldiers on both sides of the war\, and the creation of a new nation. You’ll see famous founders and lesser-known Patriots drink their way from British subjects into Americans. \nRegister directly on Zoom HERE. Sponsored by the Tewksbury Friends of the Library. \nRECORDING NOTE: This program will NOT be recorded.

SUMMARY:Virtual Author Talk: Apocalyptic Mayhem\, Lava-Spitting Llamas\, and One Very Sassy Cat: Surviving the Universe’s Most Twisted RPG with Matt Dinniman
DESCRIPTION:VIRTUAL PROGRAM \nRegister for this author talk: libraryc.org/morseinstitute \nHold onto your heart-patterned boxers! Matt Dinniman\, New York Times bestselling author of the wildly popular (and just plain wild) Dungeon Crawler Carl series\, joins us to chat about his latest book\, A Parade of Horribles. \nAs chaos and mass panic spread outside the dungeon in the wake of Faction Wars\, Carl and Donut find themselves on the tenth floor\, where they’re forced to compete in a surprisingly normal set of tasks. Well\, normal for the dungeon. \nRaces. Get from point A to point B\, and don’t come in last. After each race\, they pick an upgrade for their vehicle and the track gets more challenging. It all seems a little too normal\, a little too simple. \nIgnore those strange glitches that are occurring with increasing frequency. Don’t listen to those whispers about what’s happening on the mysterious eleventh floor\, something the system AI calls A Parade of Horribles. Nobody\, not even the showrunners\, knows what that means. Just that the AI has ominously dubbed it “a coming-out party for the ages.” \nEverything is fine\, Crawler. I repeat\, everything is fine. \nCarl hates that it’s business as usual. The rules of this floor have taken away his agency. That just will not do. \nSo Carl is planning a party of his own. It’s a plan so dangerous\, so insane\, he can’t even consult his friends lest the AI put a stop to it. Because if it goes wrong\, it’s not just the end of Carl and Donut. No. The stakes are higher than they’ve ever been. \nRegister now for a fun-filled discussion you won’t want to miss! \nAbout the Author: Matt Dinniman is a writer and artist from Gig Harbor\, Washington. He is the author of the New York Times bestselling Dungeon Crawler Carl series along with several other books about the end of the world. \nHe doesn’t really hate Cocker Spaniels\, and he plays bass in one band.

SUMMARY:VIRTUAL: Celebrating 250 -- Portraits Of A Revolution
DESCRIPTION:**PLEASE NOTE THIS IS A VIRTUAL PROGRAM THAT WILL TAKE PLACE VIA ZOOM. Registrants will receive a link to access the Zoom Webinar via email.** \nExplore American portraits painted and sculpted during the years leading up to\, and the decades after\, the Revolution. \nThe ideals\, values\, and virtues expressly stated in our founding documents are easily identifiable in these portraits once we know how to “read” them. We will examine portraits of founding “fathers” and “mothers\,” as well as of lesser-known individuals\, as documents that can be read like texts. In this program\, we’ll also discuss the tradition of portraiture\, and the influences of earlier art movements\, artists\, and artifacts\, that inform these American portraits. \nLed by Inez McDermott\, Professor Emerita of art history at New England College. She is a curator of art and history exhibitions at various museums and galleries throughout New England. \nRegister directly on Zoom HERE. Sponsored by the Tewksbury Friends of the Library. \nRECORDING NOTE: This program will be recorded.
