SUMMARY:ABC Storytime
DESCRIPTION:While the bigger kiddos are in school\, here’s a chance for the little ones to learn their A-B-C’s.  \nWe’ll start with stories and songs that feature our letter of the week.  Then we’ll do some simple crafts with the special letter – tracing\, stamping\, cutting\, gluing\, and coloring.  \nAlso\, each child can bring something with them that starts with the letter of the week – we’ll do a mini show & tell along with stories.  This week’s letter is X. (Psst… you can also bring in words that END with the letter X) \nWith cold and flu season in full swing\, let’s share stories and not germs. SUMMARY:The Photography of Weegee
DESCRIPTION:Art Historian\, Mallory Mortillaro is back with a new program. She’ll take us into the world of the photographer Weegee\, born Arthur Fellig\, who captured some of the grittiest scenes of New York City in the middle of the 20th century.  Much of Weegee’s work comes from his years trailing the city’s emergency service teams and documenting their crime scenes\, fires\, and day to day life.  He had success as a freelance news photographer\, yet was also taken seriously as an artist\, with his work being shown in the most prestigious museums of the time.  This lecture explores the mythology behind the photographer\, how a Ukrainian born man went on to be one of New York City’s most important artists. \nThis program is sponsored by The Friends of the Bacon Free Library. \nThis program will be held over Zoom. Please register to receive the meeting link.  \n\n

SUMMARY:Cinéphile Mondays
DESCRIPTION:Cinephilia is an academic word literally meaning “love of cinema\,” but it also contains hints of nostalgia and passion for a film art that was undoubtedly the defining media experience of the twentieth century. \nAs such\, cinema has a variegated and fascinating history which extends well beyond the Hollywood we are all familiar with.  Meant as a tribute to the film art around the world\, from the days of silent cinema to the new waves and beyond\, our cinephile Mondays is a slow and tasteful appreciation of the First Century of Cinema.  The films will be selected on the basis of their relevance for the development of the film art.  On the last Monday of the month\, cinephiles of the world unite!  \nWatch a movie at home and then join Film history & Media studies Professor MV for a virtual discussion. \nFor Monday February 27\nwe will be discussing: \nHistorias Mínimas directed by Carlos Sorin\, Argentina 2002\, (US release 2005). \nDVD available on the Minuteman Network HERE \n\n\n\nIf you are interested in attending this Zoom discussion\, please contact Graziella at glesellier@minlib.net

SUMMARY:Art Opening Reception: Lisa Hayden
DESCRIPTION:Lisa Hayden\, a contemporary artist from Northboro\, will be exhibiting a collection of paintings from March 3rd to May 2nd at the BFL.  With an abstract take on the natural world and a deep love of the ocean\, Lisa brings the outdoors inside. \nJoin us for an opening reception\, free & open to the public\, to celebrate Lisa’s beautiful work. \nLisa is a Massachusetts native who studied painting at the University of Miami where the vibrant world of South Florida has combined with a life in New England to form a lasting influence on her art for 30 years. She exhibits her work at art fairs and gallery shows throughout New England and is active with ArtsWorcester. \n\nLisa paints in acrylic using a palette of greens and blues\, with works ranging from fully abstract to abstracted landscapes and seascapes. A creative force in her work is a love of the ocean and nature; paintings often explore the intersection of human feelings and the natural world. An expression of both abstract concepts and landscapes through color\, texture and motion is behind each piece of art. \n\nVisit her website www.MeltedTheory.com for more information. \n
