SUMMARY:The Boston Tea Party -- 250 Years Later (Virtual)
DESCRIPTION:The story of tea has always been infused with intrigue\, particularly when it became a flash point for tensions between England and Colonial America. On the 250th anniversary of the Boston Tea Party (December 16\, 1773)\, learn about the brewing political problems tea presented in its history with Anglophile and former UK resident Claire Evans. Then\, author\, genealogist\, librarian\, and former UK resident Debra Dudek examines the history of the Boston Tea Party’s most famous partiers (and phonies)\, as well as how to trace bona fide participants through lineage societies and historical groups. \nRegister directly on Zoom HERE \n \n\n**PLEASE NOTE THIS IS A VIRTUAL PROGRAM THAT WILL TAKE PLACE VIA ZOOM. Registrants will receive a link to access the Zoom Webinar via email.**   \n  \n\n  \n

SUMMARY:Cinéphile Mondays
DESCRIPTION:Cinephilia is an academic word literally meaning “love of cinema\,” but it also contains hints of nostalgia and passion for a film art that was undoubtedly the defining media experience of the twentieth century. \nAs such\, cinema has a variegated and fascinating history which extends well beyond the Hollywood we are all familiar with.  Meant as a tribute to the film art around the world\, from the days of silent cinema to the new waves and beyond\, our cinephile Mondays is a slow and tasteful appreciation of the First Century of Cinema.  The films will be selected on the basis of their relevance for the development of the film art.  On the last Monday of the month\, cinephiles of the world unite!  \nWatch a movie at home and then join Film history & Media studies Professor MV for a virtual discussion. \nFor Monday December 18 \nWe will be discussing:  \nBeau Travail by Claire Denis\, France 1999 \nDVD available in the Minuteman Network HERE and HERE \nIf you are interested in attending this Zoom discussion\, please contact Graziella at glesellier@minlib.net

SUMMARY:Mass Audubon's The Nature of Winter with Doug Lowry (Virtual)
DESCRIPTION:The nature of Massachusetts is filled with seasonal mysteries waiting to be uncovered. Have you ever wondered which animal left tracks in the snow? What happens to pond animals under a layer of ice? Or what trees are lining the trails on your winter walks? This online program will introduce the seasonal dynamics of nature in winter\, and provide ideas and resources for observing\, appreciating\, and supporting wildlife near home this winter. \nDoug Lowry is the Senior Teacher/Naturalist for Mass Audubon’s South East Region\, Senior Field Instructor for the National Outdoor Leadership School\, and a Master Educator for the Leave No Trace program. He has spent over 3\,000 days on wilderness expeditions and is a grateful student of life-long bird study. \n \nThis program will be held over Zoom.
\nFor Monday February 5 \nWe will be discussing: Vertigo by Alfred Hitchcock\, USA 1958 \nDVD available HERE\n \nIf you are interested in attending this Zoom discussion\, please contact Graziella at glesellier@minlib.net

SUMMARY:Featured Artists - Carol Keefe & Bobby Reeve
DESCRIPTION:This exhibit pairs the lush ocean landscapes of Carol Keefe with the true-to-life bird sculptures of Bobby Reeve.  Visit the BFL to enjoy this nature-themed exhibit\, and come to meet the artists during our opening reception on Tuesday\, February 13th at 5:30pm. \n  \nCarol Keefe\nCarol Keefe is a long-term artist member of the Artist Association of Nantucket (AAN)\, and is represented at their gallery.  She has had several Featured Artist shows there and won Best of Show in the AAN Gallery in 2007.  In 2014\, Carol was honored with the 2014 Painting Award from the AAN.  Carol has studied at both the Decordova and Danforth Museum Schools\, as well as with Sherre Wilson Ray and Sandra Flavin.   Carol’s work is displayed at Brown Basket Gallery on South Wharf\, the Nantucket Looms\, The Sherborn Inn\, Natick Artist Open Studios\, and numerous private collections\, as well as in her home studio near Cisco Beach and South Natick. \nCarol’s art\, in her own words: \nI am inspired by the ever-changing light and color at the horizon. My medium of choice is oil on board or canvas. My paintings are often large\, horizontal pieces emphasizing the meeting of sky and sea on Nantucket Island. My goal is to capture the feelings of summer on our coast. \n  \nBobby Reeve\nFor over 50 years\, Bobby Reeve has been a woodworker in New Hampshire and Massachusetts doing house carpentry and running a one-man shop for furniture making and bird carvings. Both his parents were watercolorists and he started painting with their mentor\, Harold Stevenson\, many years ago. \nBobby’s art\, in his own words: \nI always wanted to fly\, and I don’t mean in a plane! Somehow this explains my love of birds — their flight\, colors\, shapes\, songs\, and behaviors. I love the idea of a “bird’s eye view” and carving and sculpting almost get me there.
