SUMMARY:Fragrance in the Garden
DESCRIPTION:Perhaps you have smelled the lovely fragrance of a peony and were immediately transported back to a time long ago in your grandmother’s garden. Have you ever wondered why that is? Joanne Pearson is back to enlighten us about the power of aroma and its importance in the garden. \nIn this program\, we’ll look at the amazing things that scent does for a plant (botanically\, that is\, the scent is not there for our pleasure!). We will discuss specific plants\, shrubs\, and trees with fragrant flowers and foliage that can be grown in New England and where to place them in the landscape to maximize our enjoyment of their fragrance throughout the garden. \nJoanne Pearson has been a professional photographer for over 25 years. Prior to her career as a photographer\, she was a registered landscape architect in the state of  Massachusetts where she practiced for 12 years.  Her photographs of gardens\, landscapes\, and people have been featured in numerous magazines\, books\, and calendars including Yankee magazine\, Farm and Ranch Living\, and BrownTrout Publishers\, Inc. She is also the solo photographer for Mahoney Publishing’s Flowers and Gardens of New England. \nThis program will be held over Zoom. Please register to receive the meeting link.  \n\n

SUMMARY:Cinéphile Mondays
DESCRIPTION:Cinephilia is an academic word literally meaning “love of cinema\,” but it also contains hints of nostalgia and passion for a film art that was undoubtedly the defining media experience of the twentieth century. \nAs such\, cinema has a variegated and fascinating history which extends well beyond the Hollywood we are all familiar with.  Meant as a tribute to the film art around the world\, from the days of silent cinema to the new waves and beyond\, our cinephile Mondays is a slow and tasteful appreciation of the First Century of Cinema.  The films will be selected on the basis of their relevance for the development of the film art.  On the last Monday of the month\, cinephiles of the world unite!  \nWatch a movie at home and then join Film history & Media studies Professor MV for a virtual discussion. \nFor Monday July 25\nWe will be discussing: \nLa Double Vie de Véronique by Krzysztof Kieślowski\, France 1991 \nDVD Available in the Minuteman Network HERE \n\n\n\nIf you are interested in attending this Zoom discussion\, please contact Graziella at glesellier@minlib.net

SUMMARY:Circus in a Suitcase
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a fabulous performance by the One-Man Circus in-a-Suitcase. It’s everything you’d expect to see at the circus\, all out of one suitcase! \nKevin O’Keefe\, the One-Man Circus in-a-Suitcase gives everyone an opportunity to participate in an enthralling\, whimsical celebration of the imagination. \nFrom Kevin O’Keefe’s suitcase an entire circus emerges: tent\, band\, lights\, the boisterous ringmaster Steve Fitzpatrick\, the officious Mervin Merkle\, the incredible Bumbilini Family\, the Magician-to-the-Stars Clyde Zerbini\, and Keefer–an innocent trying to runaway and join the circus. \nHowever\, the most important performers emerge from the audience. Each performance becomes a dialogue between the characters and the audience–a light-hearted collaboration. \nThis show has been performed over 500 times around the globe\, for family theater audiences and school assemblies alike.  \nThis program is sponsored by the Friends of the Bacon Free Library. \nLearn more about Circus Minimus here. \n

\nFor Monday August 29\n \nThe Cabinet of Dr. Caligari by Robert Wiene\, Germany 1920 \nAvailable on KANOPY \n\n\n\nIf you are interested in attending this Zoom discussion\, please contact Graziella at glesellier@minlib.net
