SUMMARY:Walnut Hill School for the Arts
DESCRIPTION:Walnut Hill School for the Arts is an independent boarding and day high school offering an immersive and intensive educational experience designed for student artists in Grades 9–12\, with a postgraduate gap year also available. \nIn the Visual Art Department\, students acquire foundational skills and hone their creative impulses through personal practice\, faculty guidance\, and exposure to the work of peers. Classes ranging from drawing\, ceramics\, and painting to photography and apparel design are taught by faculty mentors who are also professional artists. I have been doing art my whole life and this year have had a blast experimenting with new techniques and different ways to expand on how I think of conventional approaches to my art. I love to build upon my ability to think about processes\, and how it affects my view of the world around me.   \nAnisia Hanlin Cui: I’m from Beijing. I like ceramic\, sculpture\, photography\, and printmaking. \nAudrey Kriz: Her work mirrors life through a distorted lens. \nAva Thieme: I am 18 years old\, and I’m from Upton\, Massachusetts. I would say that in my artwork I love to blend concepts that are whimsical and feminine with a layer of strangeness and humor. I take a lot of inspiration from history and nature\, and I plan to go into art for college! \nCindy Chen: I currently study in grade 10 at Walnut Hill School. For me\, art is a wonderful channel to show my inner thoughts and feelings. Right now\, I’m embracing every moment of learning and exploring my creativity through practice. \nElla (Yufan) Zhou: Ella was born in Hangzhou\, China\, and currently lives in Los Angeles. Her artistic practice focuses on the human figure. Through her work\, Ella invites viewers into an intimate dialogue between strength\, vulnerability\, and transformation. She has explored a wide range of media\, continually pushing the boundaries of her expression. \nElle Stanley: I am a newly enrolled sophomore at Walnut Hill School. I am 15 and I am an illustration-based artist\, working in mediums of colored pencil\, paint\, and digital\, primarily. I plan to go to college for visual art or art marketing.  \nElliot Ellie Bible: I’m a new junior at Walnut Hill School. I’m 16 years old and I am especially interested in printmaking and sculpture. \nEmma Feng: I’m a freshman at Walnut Hill School. I am 14 and I love doing apparel and drawing.  \nIris Hamilton: I have been at Walnut Hill School for 3 years now. I’ve taken up a love of sculpture works and printmaking. After school\, I plan to study with a governmental/human rights focus in college.  \nJiaman Chloe Sun: I am a junior at Walnut Hill School\, and I am from Beijing\, China. I love oil painting\, especially scenes from my life. I hope to study art in the future. \nKatelina Viana: I am a senior Visual Artist Major\, most interested in comic and illustration work. My biggest inspirations are Akira Toriyama\, Hayao Miyazaki\, and many other comic artists and animators. My mother is from Argentina\, and my father is from Brazil. My art is largely inspired by my experiences\, and how everyone is different and unique.  \nTsz Mang Lemon Ye: My name is Lemon; I’m from China\, I’m 15 years old\, and I love creating animations\, writing poems\, and all kinds of little animals. I hope to keep telling stories through animation in the future. \nWinter Aiyue Qiu: I’m originally from Greenwich\, Connecticut. My favorite artistic medium is ceramics\, and most of my art is inspired by cultural and diasporic history. I plan to study philosophy\, history\, and visual art in college.   \n

SUMMARY:Art to Go - Pointillism Cherry Tree Painting
DESCRIPTION:Now you can enjoy Pop up Art School’s projects in your home! Sign up to take home a kit and watch the how-to video any time within a 30-day period in the comfort and convenience of your home. Kits are limited\, so please don’t sign up unless you will watch the Pop up Art School’s how-to video. \nLet’s create a stunning tree painting using pointillism! This painting technique originated during the Impressionist era and involves using dots of different colors to create an impression of flowers and grass. Start with a brush to outline the tree and background\, then add colors and details using dots. This will give your painting a beautiful and unique texture. \nRecommended for ages 13+ \n  \nThis program is full. If you would like\, you may join the waiting list by filling out this form: \n\n\n \n \n Event Waiting List\n \n \n Name(Required)\n \n \n \n First\n \n \n \n \n Last\n \n \n Email(Required)\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Δ\n \n \n \n  \n

SUMMARY:VIRTUAL: Amalia Kussner's Paintings & The Characters Of The HBO Series "The Gilded Age"
DESCRIPTION:Amalia Kussner was one of the preferred artists of Gilded Age New York\, especially in the 1890s when she painted miniature portraits of the elites. Fans of the critically acclaimed HBO series\, The Gilded Age\, will appreciate Kussner’s portraits of several key characters\, including Mrs. Astor\, the reigning matriarch of the social scene and her two daughters; famed actress Lillian Russell; English soprano Marie Tempest; and wealthy socialite Consuelo Vanderbilt.  Kussner even met Ward McAllister\, the arbiter of Gilded Age society. He advised her not to pursue her career as an artist and\, thankfully\, she ignored him. \nIn this program\, author and historical researcher Kathleen Langone will reveal how Kussner’s portraits and interactions with these famous people can provide more insights into their extravagant lives. \nKathleen Langone is the host of the podcast People Hidden In History and the author of the book Miniature Painter Revealed: Amalia Kussner’s Gilded Age Pursuit of Fame and Fortune. \nThis program is held in collaboration with the Tewksbury Public Library. \n  \nPlease register to receive the Zoom link. \n  \nRECORDING NOTE: This program will be recorded. All registrants will receive the recording via email within 48 hours of the program.

SUMMARY:VIRTUAL: Paintings of the American Revolution
DESCRIPTION:In celebration of America’s Semiquincentennial\, Mallory Mortillaro presents Paintings of the American Revolution. \nWe all know the story of the Revolutionary War\, but how much of our understanding is colored by the way the war was depicted by artists? Paintings of the American Revolution have been essential in the way that the war was understood\, both at the time of the conflict and for generations after. This lecture will explore well-known paintings such as Emanuel Leutze’s Washington Crossing the Delaware\, John Trumbull’s Declaration of Independence\, and Asher Durand’s The Capture of Major André. \nMallory Mortillaro is an art historian and educator. She has ten years of teaching experience and has worked on various art research projects for museums and organizations in the New York metropolitan area. She studied at Drew University. \nThis program will be held over Zoom. Please register to receive the meeting link.  \n\n \n \n VIRTUAL: Paintings of the American Revolution w/Art Historian Mallory Mortillaro\n \n \n Name*Email\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Δ

SUMMARY:Nonfiction Book Club
DESCRIPTION:  \n  \nThis month\, we will discuss Dropkick Murphy: a legendary life by Emily Sweeney.  \n \nFrom Hamilcar Publications: \nNewspapers called him the “the man with the cast-iron toes\,” “the best drop-kicker in wrestling\,” and “one of the mat game’s biggest box office attractions.” But Dr. John “Dropkick” Murphy’s legacy extends far beyond the wrestling ring. Decades before the Betty Ford Center became a household name — and long before the band the Dropkick Murphys named themselves in his honor — the phrase going to Dropkick’s meant a person struggling with addiction needed help and would soon get some. \nThis book chronicles for the first time the unbelievable life of Dr. “Dropkick” Murphy\, a professional wrestler who put himself through medical school during the Great Depression and then opened Bellows Farm\, a one-of-a-kind institution that served as both a facility where elite athletes could train as well as a secluded place where down-on-their-luck alcoholics could go to sober up discreetly. \nThe celebrities who frequented Dropkick Murphy’s farm were many\, and numerous professional athletes would go there to focus on their training and work out in his state-of-the-art gymnasium. As a result\, Bellows Farm featured an unrivaled and revolving cast of colorful characters who brought it to life. Drawing on years of research and interviews\, author Emily Sweeney goes behind the scenes to reveal the untold story of Murphy’s life\, his farm\, and the legendary events that unfolded there. \n  \nCopies of this book are available at the library.  \n  \nOur discussion will be on Zoom.  Please register here to receive the meeting details: \n  \n\n \n \n Nonfiction Book Club Registration - March 2026\n \n \n your nameemail*\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Δ

SUMMARY:Cinéphile Mondays
DESCRIPTION:Cinephilia is an academic word literally meaning “love of cinema\,” but it also contains hints of nostalgia and passion for a film art that was undoubtedly the defining media experience of the twentieth century. \nAs such\, cinema has a variegated and fascinating history which extends well beyond the Hollywood we are all familiar with.  Meant as a tribute to the film art around the world\, from the days of silent cinema to the new waves and beyond\, our cinephile Mondays is a slow and tasteful appreciation of the First Century of Cinema.  The films will be selected on the basis of their relevance for the development of the film art.  On the last Monday of the month\, cinephiles of the world unite!  \nWatch a movie at home and then join Film history & Media studies Professor MV for a virtual discussion. \nFor Monday March 30\, we will be discussing: \nThe passenger by Michelangelo Antonioni\,  Italy 1975. \n(Italian title: Professione: reporter) \nDVD available in the MLN HERE \n\n \nIf you are interested in attending this Zoom discussion\, please contact Graziella at glesellier@minlib.net
