SUMMARY:Author Talk: Dick Lehr
DESCRIPTION:We are happy to welcome author\, journalist\, and professor Dick Lehr back to the BFL to talk about his latest book\, White Hot Hate.  This book details the gripping true story of an averted domestic terrorist attack against a Kansas farming town’s immigrant Somali community. Crucial to this story is the FBI informant who exposed the murderous plot.  Dan Day\, an average guy who went to the police with his concerns\, became an FBI informant.  Lehr also narrated the podcast adaptation of this story\, ABC News Truth and Lies: The Informant.  Copies of this book will be available to purchase for $15; cash only please.  \n \n  \nDick Lehr\, a professor of journalism at Boston University\, is the author of seven award-winning works of nonfiction and fiction. Lehr previously wrote for the Boston Globe\, where he was a member of its Spotlight Team\, a special projects reporter and a magazine writer. While at the Globe he was a Pulitzer Prize finalist in investigative reporting.

SUMMARY:Cinéphile Mondays
DESCRIPTION:Cinephilia is an academic word literally meaning “love of cinema\,” but it also contains hints of nostalgia and passion for a film art that was undoubtedly the defining media experience of the twentieth century. \nAs such\, cinema has a variegated and fascinating history which extends well beyond the Hollywood we are all familiar with.  Meant as a tribute to the film art around the world\, from the days of silent cinema to the new waves and beyond\, our cinephile Mondays is a slow and tasteful appreciation of the First Century of Cinema.  The films will be selected on the basis of their relevance for the development of the film art.  On the last Monday of the month\, cinephiles of the world unite!  \nWatch a movie at home and then join Film history & Media studies Professor MV for a virtual discussion. \nFor Monday June 26 \nWe will be discussing: Citizen Kane by Orson Welles\, USA 1941 \nAvailable on DVD in the Minuteman Network HERE \nIf you are interested in attending this Zoom discussion\, please contact Graziella at glesellier@minlib.net

SUMMARY:(Virtual) A Look at the Life and Works of Agatha Christie
DESCRIPTION:VIRTUAL: Great Writers – A Look at the Life and Works of Agatha Christie\nFriday\, July 21st 2:00—3:30 PM Online in Collaboration with the Tewksbury Public Library\n\n**PLEASE NOTE THIS IS A VIRTUAL PROGRAM THAT WILL TAKE PLACE VIA ZOOM. Registrants will receive a link to access the Zoom Meeting via email.**   \nAgatha Christie is the most famous mystery writer in the world. In fact\, the Guinness Book of World Records goes further and lists Christie as the best-selling novelist of all time. Her novels have sold roughly 2 billion copies\, and her estate claims that her works come third in the rankings of the world’s most-widely published books\, behind only Shakespeare’s works and the Bible. Who was this remarkable woman? How did she come to write her indelible works? Why is she still such a popular literary figure? These and other questions will be explored along with a real life mystery about Christie’s dramatic disappearance in 1926 that remains substantially unsolved to this day. Led by Dr. Bill Thierfelder\, a retired college professor who taught a variety of Arts and Humanities courses for 32 years at several New York universities and colleges\, including St. John’s University and Dowling College. He holds a Ph.D. in English\, with minors in theater\, art history and music history. \nRegister directly on Zoom HERE. \n  \n\n  \n  \n

SUMMARY:Nonfiction Book Club
DESCRIPTION:  \n \nThis month\, we will discuss Chasing the Thrill: Obsession\, Death\, and Glory in American’s Most Extraordinary Treasure Hunt by Daniel Barbarisi.   \nWhen Forrest Fenn was given a fatal cancer diagnosis\, he came up with a bold plan: He would hide a chest full of jewels and gold in the wilderness\, and publish a poem that would serve as a map leading to the treasure’s secret location. But he didn’t die\, and after hiding the treasure in 2010\, Fenn instead presided over a decade-long gold rush that saw many thousands of treasure hunters scrambling across the Rocky Mountains in pursuit of his fortune. \n \nIn 2017\, reporter Daniel Barbarisi began to document this hunt. Over the course of four chaotic years\, several searchers would die\, endless controversies would erupt\, and one hunter would ultimately find the chest.  But the mystery didn’t end there. \nCopies of this book are available at the library.  \nThe BFL is not open on summer Saturdays\, therefore our  discussion will be held on Zoom.  Please register here to receive the meeting details: \n\n \n \n Nonfiction Book Club Registration - July 2025\n \n \n your nameemail*\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Δ
