SUMMARY:Cinéphile Mondays
DESCRIPTION:Cinephilia is an academic word literally meaning “love of cinema\,” but it also contains hints of nostalgia and passion for a film art that was undoubtedly the defining media experience of the twentieth century. \nAs such\, cinema has a variegated and fascinating history which extends well beyond the Hollywood we are all familiar with.  Meant as a tribute to the film art around the world\, from the days of silent cinema to the new waves and beyond\, our cinephile Mondays is a slow and tasteful appreciation of the First Century of Cinema.  The films will be selected on the basis of their relevance for the development of the film art.  On the last Monday of the month\, cinephiles of the world unite!  \nWatch a movie at home and then join Film history & Media studies Professor MV for a virtual discussion. \n\n\nFor Monday April 27\, we will be discussing: \nBlow-Up by Michelangelo Antonioni\,  Italy 1966. \n\n\nCriterion DVD available in the MLN HERE\n\n \nIf you are interested in attending this Zoom discussion\, please contact Graziella at glesellier@minlib.net

SUMMARY:Nonfiction Book Club
DESCRIPTION:  \nThis month\, we will discuss The Art Thief: a true story of passion\, obsession\, and a monumental crime spree by Michael Finkel.  \n \nFrom MichaelFinkel.com: The Art Thief chronicles one of the most outrageous crime sprees in history: In the late 1990s and early 2000s\, Stéphane Breitwieser stole from more than 200 museums and galleries across Europe\, amassing a collection worth an estimated $2 billion. He never resorted to violence – his audacious thefts all occurred during daylight hours\, most with the aid of his girlfriend\, Anne-Catherine Kleinklaus\, who served as lookout. And unlike nearly every other art thief\, Breitwieser did not steal for money. He displayed his treasures in a secret lair where he and his girlfriend could admire them. Yet even more astounding than his crimes is the spectacular events that brought everything crashing down.  \nThe Art Thief\, based on a series of exclusive interviews with Breitwieser\, the first he has ever granted to an American journalist\, details a riveting story of love\, crime\, and an insatiable hunger to possess beauty at any cost. \n  \nCopies of this book are available at the library.  \n  \nOur discussion will be on Zoom.  Please register here to receive the meeting details: \n  \n\n\n \n \n Nonfiction Book Club Registration - April 2026\n \n \n your nameemail*\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Δ

\nFor Monday March 30\, we will be discussing: \nThe passenger by Michelangelo Antonioni\,  Italy 1975. \n(Italian title: Professione: reporter) \nDVD available in the MLN HERE \n\n \nIf you are interested in attending this Zoom discussion\, please contact Graziella at glesellier@minlib.net

SUMMARY:Nonfiction Book Club
DESCRIPTION:  \n  \nThis month\, we will discuss Dropkick Murphy: a legendary life by Emily Sweeney.  \n \nFrom Hamilcar Publications: \nNewspapers called him the “the man with the cast-iron toes\,” “the best drop-kicker in wrestling\,” and “one of the mat game’s biggest box office attractions.” But Dr. John “Dropkick” Murphy’s legacy extends far beyond the wrestling ring. Decades before the Betty Ford Center became a household name — and long before the band the Dropkick Murphys named themselves in his honor — the phrase going to Dropkick’s meant a person struggling with addiction needed help and would soon get some. \nThis book chronicles for the first time the unbelievable life of Dr. “Dropkick” Murphy\, a professional wrestler who put himself through medical school during the Great Depression and then opened Bellows Farm\, a one-of-a-kind institution that served as both a facility where elite athletes could train as well as a secluded place where down-on-their-luck alcoholics could go to sober up discreetly. \nThe celebrities who frequented Dropkick Murphy’s farm were many\, and numerous professional athletes would go there to focus on their training and work out in his state-of-the-art gymnasium. As a result\, Bellows Farm featured an unrivaled and revolving cast of colorful characters who brought it to life. Drawing on years of research and interviews\, author Emily Sweeney goes behind the scenes to reveal the untold story of Murphy’s life\, his farm\, and the legendary events that unfolded there. \n  \nCopies of this book are available at the library.  \n  \nOur discussion will be on Zoom.  Please register here to receive the meeting details: \n  \n\n \n \n Nonfiction Book Club Registration - March 2026\n \n \n your nameemail*\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Δ

SUMMARY:VIRTUAL: Paintings of the American Revolution
DESCRIPTION:In celebration of America’s Semiquincentennial\, Mallory Mortillaro presents Paintings of the American Revolution. \nWe all know the story of the Revolutionary War\, but how much of our understanding is colored by the way the war was depicted by artists? Paintings of the American Revolution have been essential in the way that the war was understood\, both at the time of the conflict and for generations after. This lecture will explore well-known paintings such as Emanuel Leutze’s Washington Crossing the Delaware\, John Trumbull’s Declaration of Independence\, and Asher Durand’s The Capture of Major André. \nMallory Mortillaro is an art historian and educator. She has ten years of teaching experience and has worked on various art research projects for museums and organizations in the New York metropolitan area. She studied at Drew University. \nThis program will be held over Zoom. Please register to receive the meeting link.  \n\n \n \n VIRTUAL: Paintings of the American Revolution w/Art Historian Mallory Mortillaro\n \n \n Name*Email\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Δ
