SUMMARY:Rebecca McGee Tuck - Meet the Artist Event
DESCRIPTION:The Bacon Free Library is hosting a meet the artist event with sculptor and social activist\, Rebecca McGee Tuck.  Come join us on Tuesday\, April 30th from 5-6:30pm. \nRebecca McGee Tuck is a sculptor and an ocean activist.  Her work is a visual narrative of what she accumulates from a throw away society and as a result she gives new life to what others discard. Tuck has shown her work in multiple juried shows throughout the Northeast including the Danforth and Fitchburg Art Museums\, Viridian Arts Gallery\,  NYC\, and the George Marshall Store Gallery in York\, Maine.   Her series of work called  “Along the Wrack Line” deals with the overwhelming amount of debris and plastic trash that contaminate our local New England beaches.  Tuck works among her menagerie of debris from her studio at the Mill Contemporary Art Studios in Framingham. \nWrack Line–  A trail of debris left on the beach by the high tide. \nI began walking the wrack line as a kid with my father—attracted to the sea glass and shells like a perpetual seaside treasure hunt.  I learned in time that the real treasures were not always as conspicuous.  The random debris that washed ashore after spending ages enduring the ocean’s churn and grasp held more mystery for me.  Foraging at the high tide water mark has metamorphosed into my passion and catalyst for my work.  \nFishing lines\, rope\, lobster cages and other marine debris are colorful\, full of texture and ready-made to be woven into my assemblage fiber sculpture.  But with each bag of jetsam collected\, I felt the precarious weight of the impact of marine debris on our ocean.  It has overwhelmed me and it became clear that I needed to take a more active role in the ocean’s protection.  \n“Along the Wrack-line” is the title I have given to my ongoing series of sculpture.  With this work I raise awareness to the constant misuse of the ocean’s ecosystem by transforming pieces of marine debris into works of art and symbols of hope calling attention to the consequences of polluting our oceans and encouraging a new commitment to action! \nInstagram: @Rebeccabombshellart /https://www.instagram.com/rebeccabombshellart/ \nFacebook: RebeccaMcGeeTuckArt https://www.facebook.com/rebeccamcgeetuckart/ \nwebsite: Rebeccamcgeetuck.com https://rebeccamcgeetuck.com/

SUMMARY:Great Blue Herons: A Study of Patience and Grace by Babsje
DESCRIPTION:“Alas\, my days of photographing the magnificent Great Blue Herons from the cockpit of my kayak floating on the lake have come to an end.” Posted by Babsje on December 20\, 2023\, shortly before her death in January. babsjeheron.wordpress.com. \nBabsje was a local photographer who focused her lens on the Great Blue Herons in and around Lake Cochituate and on the Charles\, including at the dam in South Natick. She spent many very happy days floating in her kayak\, and the herons became so accustomed to her quiet presence that she was able to beautifully document their private grandeur for all to experience.  \nShe is greatly missed. \n\n \n \n \n\n \n Babsje_HappyBabsje Yoga Heron 3Babsje Yoga Heron 2Great blue heron preening Columbus Day weekend.Babsje great-blue-heron-fishing-near-reedsBabsje Yoga Heron 1 \n\n \n \n \n \n  \nVisit the BFL to enjoy Babsje’s stunning photography collection\, Great Blue Herons: A Study of Patience and Grace. \nPhotographs are available for purchase upon request \nAll proceeds from sales will be donated to Massachusetts Audubon Society \n

SUMMARY:Marie Picard Craig Art Exhibit
DESCRIPTION: \nMarie Craig uses cyanotype photography to explore the overlap between concrete bodies\, or still moments\, and the life instilled in them. Her photographs capture places of formative choice\, incorporating both intention and chance.  \nCyanotype photographs (sometimes called sunprints) are made without a camera by placing objects on paper or fabric that is coated with a solution of iron salts before exposing it in the sun and rinsing with water to produce deep blue images. Marie loves the beautiful blue color of the images\, which she sometimes embellishes with other bright colors or beads. \n  \n\n \n \n \n\n \n _2drFUgS6i8AqUhib7IoNv-XEBKgdU1khC3JdREYLmufmXsjx8_FM2CwYUVMoogP \n\n \n \n \n \n  \nMarie began her career as a medical photographer and illustrator after graduating from Clark University in Worcester with a master’s degree in biology. She later shifted her role to become a teacher\, curator\, photographer\, and gallerist\, all in the fine art community. Marie has shown her work in numerous solo and group exhibitions in the US and Australia. In 2011 she co-founded Fountain Street Gallery in Boston and serves as its director. She lives and works in Natick. \nTo learn more about Marie and her work:  \nhttps://mariecraigart.com/ \nhttps://www.instagram.com/mariecraigphoto \n

SUMMARY:Quilts by Frances Caruso Daneault
DESCRIPTION:The BFL  is thrilled to welcome back former Assistant Director and Children’s Librarian extraordinaire Fran Daneault to exhibit her spectacular collection of quilts. Along with raising her two sons in Natick and working at the Bacon\, Fran has also spent years perfecting her crafting skills. She applies the same energy\, creativity\, joy\, and humor to her artistic works that she brought to working with children and families at the Bacon\, where she frequently wore and gifted some of her handmade creations. \nA longtime resident of Natick\, Fran and her husband recently relocated to New Hampshire\, where Fran can be found walking on the beach\, volunteering in her local library\, and quilting up a storm. \nJoin us for an Art Reception on Tuesday\, October 8 from 5:00 to 6:30 pm! \n  \n\n \n \n \n\n \n My HouseGrownBambooHidden AlphabetFirst Trip \n\n \n \n \n \n  \n  \nFran’s work\, in her own words:\n \nI am a scrappy\, wonky\, modern\, art quilter who sometimes makes traditional quilts. \nI like learning in classes and workshops but have trouble sticking to a pattern. \nFor fabric\, I collect randomly spaced dots\, paisleys\, loudly busy prints and happy colors. Observing their behaviors and interactions has been educational as well as entertaining. \nWith a telephoto lens and lots of patience\, I have been able to capture special moments like the ones I have on exhibit here. These interactions between members of bird families warm my heart. \nI love visiting Acadia National Park. I have observed many beautiful natural scenes there and tried to do justice to them with my images. \n

SUMMARY:Carlos Santiago Art
DESCRIPTION:Carlos Santiago’s still lifes walk a line between representational and abstract art\, with his primary source of inspiration being flowers and vases. In flowers\, he finds complicated patterns\, shapes\, and repetition; elements that show up in all of his paintings. \nPlease join us for a reception with Carlos on Tuesday\, December 17th.  You can also enjoy his paintings through January 22nd. \n  \n\n \n \n \n\n \n pinkanglespinkpurplemulticolor \n\n \n \n \n \n  \nCarlos has developed a signature technique that employs a sharp edge to create clean straight lines that extend the limits of his subjects\, adding drama and energy and a bold recognition to each painting. His use of shadow plays an important role in his work\, enhancing the contrast between the darkness and his vivid colors. \nCarlos doesn’t simply paint the still life subjects he sees\, but the dream-like gestures that he feels. Working with familiar compositions\, he hopes to create artwork that conveys not only the visual reality of his subjects\, but the vibrant extension of energy into their surroundings. \nCarlos Santiago is from Caguas\, Puerto Rico. He obtained his BFA in fine art from the Savannah College of Art and Design in Savannah\, Georgia. He subsequently worked for ten years as a design professional in the fashion industry in New York City. Now\, Carlos lives and works in Boston\, Ma. \n  \n  \n  \n  \n

SUMMARY:Tom Doran: Ease Your Eyes
DESCRIPTION:Driven by a desire to reconcile structure with chance\, Tom Doran creates unique digital compositions that layer photography and previous artworks. Informed by years of jazz improvisation and the tactile nature of paper collage\, his process embraces spontaneity and a pursuit of balance between order and disorder. Tom values fundamental artistic principles\, yet intentionally introduces ambiguity to ignite curiosity and encourage viewers to venture beyond familiar perspectives. While often abstract\, his pieces resonate with an underlying “soul” and subtly reference the organic forms and energies of nature. Ultimately\, Tom aims to craft works that prompt personal interpretation and reveal unseen possibilities\, echoing the belief that compelling art poses questions and offers new ways of seeing. \nAccording to Tom: “I use color and texture to challenge but also soothe you. While I don’t require beauty to be an element of my work\, I value beauty hence Ease Your Eyes.” \nCome to the BFL to view Tom’s work\, which will be on display from November 5th through January 28th.  You can also enjoy his work at The Center for Arts in Natick (TCAN) in the Spring of 2026.  \n  \n\n \n \n \n\n \n Doran_silverDoran_redDoran_green \n\n \n \n \n \n  \n  \nTom’s art career didn’t actually begin with art. Instead it started with music. First\, rock\, in the soul\, funk\, and r&b area\, then on to jazz. The jazz aesthetic provided the basis for his art: study and be well prepared so that when it’s time to improvise- make the leap! \nTwenty years ago he began improvising with collage and paint. Now his art is in the digital domain but he uses the same techniques\, now called “pixel collages”: Use original images\, find things to work together\, keep it fresh\, improvise. Tom is fascinated by nature\, geometry\, and strong colors so all of that comes out in his pictures\, which he describes as a collision of nature and the modern world; at times ironic\, funny\, eye candy-like\, digital\, abstract\, and hopefully\, fun. \nTom is a proficient jazz bassist and singer who is mostly self taught\, he is mainly a self-taught artist as well.  His influences include Picasso\, Matisse\, Joseph Stella\, Juan Gris\, Georgia O’Keefe\, Lee Krazner\, Arthur Dove\, Gerhard Richter\, Romare Beardon\, Sam Gilliam\, and Mark Bradford. \nTom says: “Please judge me by my work.” \n
