DESCRIPTION:The BFL is partnering with the Ashland Public Library to bring you this scrumptious cooking demonstration.  If you are looking for a sweet treat for the holidays that won’t sabotage your healthy eating goals\, join registered dietitian Heidi McIndoo to make mini pumpkin pie tartlets.  \nHeidi Reichenberger McIndoo\, M.S.\, R.D.\, L.D.N.\, is a nutrition consultant\, spokesperson\, author\, and freelance writer with 25 years experience as a registered dietitian.   She loves helping people to realize that eating nutritiously doesn’t have to mean sacrificing flavor and pleasure.   \nHeidi currently works with Hannaford Supermarkets and in corporate wellness.  She’s the author of When to Eat What and the co-author of The Complete Idiot’s Guide to 200-300-400 Calories Meals.  In addition\, she has written for several magazines including\, All You\, Today’s Diet & Nutrition\, Parents\, Family Circle\, Self\, Prevention\, Fitness\, Shape\, and Woman’s Day; and newsletters such as Environmental Nutrition and Women’s Nutrition Connection.  As a former national media spokesperson for the American Dietetic Association (now the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics) she’s been quoted as an expert in hundreds of magazine articles and television broadcasts. \nHeidi lives in the metro Boston area with her husband and their daughter and son.  \nThis event will be held over Zoom.  Please register to receive the meeting link. \nRECORDING NOTE: This program will be recorded. DESCRIPTION:Retired Massachusetts Superior Court Justice Dennis Curran is excited to continued his monthly “Great American Unsung Heroes Who Changed The Course Of History” series. \nLearn about Elizabeth Freeman\, a little-known national hero\, and a symbol of courage and spirit to all who cherish freedom. She was among the first slaves in Massachusetts to sue for and win her freedom. During the Revolutionary War\, Freeman heard the Massachusetts Constitution read aloud\, and heard these words: “All men are born free and equal….” Freeman recognized the potential legal and moral significance of these words and sought out an attorney to sue for her freedom under the newly-ratified state constitution. With the help of an attorney who was an abolitionist\, she pled her case for freedom in a western Massachusetts court. The jury ruled in her favor and she became the first African-American woman set free under the Massachusetts constitution. Her case helped end slavery in Massachusetts. \nDennis J. Curran served as a Massachusetts judge for 16 years\, including in the Superior Court from 2006 to 2018. Prior to his time on the bench\, Curran worked as an Assistant District Attorney and First Assistant Legal Counsel to the Governor\, in addition to work in private practice. A graduate of Boston Latin School\, the University of Pennsylvania\, and the University of Virginia School of Law\, Curran has taught law at Tufts University\, Roger Williams University School of Law\, and Brown University.  \nRegister directly on Zoom HERE. That first trip changed her life\, and by 2000\, the Minetors had pledged to see all 391 (now 429) national parks in their lifetimes. They found a way to subsidize this passion in 2006\, when they began writing and photographing books on the parks for The Globe Pequot Press (now Rowman & Littlefield). Today Randi has written more than 90 books\, including seven books in the nonfiction Death in the National Parks series\, ten hiking guides in New York State\, several bird-finding guides\, and even reference books on health topics. To date\, they have visited 354 national parks. In addition\, Nic’s photography appears in eight Quick Reference Guides to the Birds\, Trees\, and Wildflowers of New York City and New York State\, and The Trees and Wildflowers of the Mid-Atlantic States. DESCRIPTION:Cinephilia is an academic word literally meaning “love of cinema\,” but it also contains hints of nostalgia and passion for a film art that was undoubtedly the defining media experience of the twentieth century. \nAs such\, cinema has a variegated and fascinating history which extends well beyond the Hollywood we are all familiar with.  Meant as a tribute to the film art around the world\, from the days of silent cinema to the new waves and beyond\, our cinephile Mondays is a slow and tasteful appreciation of the First Century of Cinema.  The films will be selected on the basis of their relevance for the development of the film art.  On the last Monday of the month\, cinephiles of the world unite!  \nWatch a movie at home and then join Film history & Media studies Professor MV for a virtual discussion. \nFor Monday January 27\, we will be discussing:  \nLate Spring by Yasujirō Ozu\, Japan 1949 \nAvailable on DVD (Criterion) HERE \nIf you are interested in attending this Zoom discussion\, please contact Graziella at glesellier@minlib.net
