SUMMARY:Ask a Muslim Anything
DESCRIPTION:Join us for coffee and one-on-one conversation with Robert Azzi. He has been traveling throughout the Northeast and beyond at the invitation of local communities to speak about his life and what it’s like to be Muslim in America\, how he came to convert to Islam and about the religion of Islam and it’s history – especially in America – and about the Middle East\, terrorism and associated political and social issues. Nothing is off the table except rudeness and disrespect.  \n

SUMMARY:Nonfiction Book Club
DESCRIPTION:This month\, we will discuss Home Made: a story of grief\, groceries\, showing up – and what we make when we make dinner by Liz Hauck. \nAccording to Goodreads.com\, here’s what Home Made is about: \n Liz Hauck and her dad had a plan to start a weekly cooking program in a residential home for teenage boys in state care\, which was run by the human services agency he co-directed. When her father died unexpectedly\, Liz decided to attempt the cooking project without him. This is the story of what happened around the table\, and how one dinner became one hundred dinners.  Home Made is a powerful memoir about the small acts of showing up that transform our lives and how making food can make community.  \nCopies of this book are available at the library.  \nOur discussion will be held in a hybrid format.  The host will be in person at the BFL\, while some members will join over zoom.  You are welcome to join either way.  For zoom\, please register here to receive the meeting details: \n\n\n \n \n Nonfiction Book Club Registration - October 2025\n \n \n your nameemail*\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Δ

SUMMARY:Cinéphile Mondays
DESCRIPTION:Cinephilia is an academic word literally meaning “love of cinema\,” but it also contains hints of nostalgia and passion for a film art that was undoubtedly the defining media experience of the twentieth century. \nAs such\, cinema has a variegated and fascinating history which extends well beyond the Hollywood we are all familiar with.  Meant as a tribute to the film art around the world\, from the days of silent cinema to the new waves and beyond\, our cinephile Mondays is a slow and tasteful appreciation of the First Century of Cinema.  The films will be selected on the basis of their relevance for the development of the film art.  On the last Monday of the month\, cinephiles of the world unite!  \nWatch a movie at home and then join Film history & Media studies Professor MV for a virtual discussion. \nFor Monday October 31\nwe will be discussing: \nLe Mépris by Jean-Luc Godard\, France 1963 \nDVD available on the Minuteman Network HERE \n\n\n\nIf you are interested in attending this Zoom discussion\, please contact Graziella at glesellier@minlib.net

SUMMARY:Inhabitants: Indigenous Perspectives on Restoring our World - award-winning documentary
DESCRIPTION:The Bacon Free Library is partnering with the Natick Historical Society\, the Town of Natick’s Department of Sustainability and the Town of Natick’s Department of Community and Economic Development to bring you this award-winning documentary which follows five Native American communities as they restore their traditional land management practices in the face of a changing climate. For millennia Native Americans successfully stewarded and shaped their landscapes\, but centuries of colonization have disrupted their ability to maintain these processes. From deserts\, coastlines\, forests\, mountains\, and prairies\, Native communities across the US are restoring their ancient relationships with the land. The five stories include sustaining traditions of Hopi dryland farming in Arizona; restoring buffalo to the Blackfeet reservation in Montana; maintaining sustainable forestry on the Menominee reservation in Wisconsin; reviving native food forests in Hawaii; and returning prescribed fire to the landscape by the Karuk Tribe of California. As the climate crisis escalates\, these time-tested practices of North America’s original inhabitants are becoming increasingly essential in a rapidly changing world. \nPlease register below to view the film. You will receive the link the screen the film on November 20th. The link will be good through December 3rd. \nAfter viewing the film\, join us for a Q & A with the film’s producer. This program will be held over Zoom\, please register to receive the link. \n  \n\nThe streaming link may not be shared with anyone outside of your class\, campus event or community event\, or posted on any website or social media page that is accessible to the public. SUMMARY:Nonfiction Book Club
DESCRIPTION:This month\, we will discuss The White Darkness by David Grann. \nDavid Grann tells the remarkable story of Henry Worsley\, a devoted husband and father and a decorated British special forces officer who believed in honor and sacrifice. Worsley was fascinated with Ernest Shackleton\, the 19th-century polar explorer\, who never completed his journeys\, but repeatedly rescued his men from certain death\, and emerged as one of the greatest leaders in history. \nIn 2008\, Worsley set out across Antarctica with two other descendants of Shackleton’s crew\, battling the freezing\, desolate landscape\, life-threatening physical exhaustion\, and hidden crevasses. Yet when he returned home he felt compelled to go back. On November 2015\, at age 55\, Worsley embarked on his most perilous quest: to walk across Antarctica alone.  In The White Darkness\, David Grann chronicles Worsley’s incredible journey.  \nCopies of this book are available at the library.  \nOur discussion will be held in a hybrid format.  The host will be in person at the BFL\, while some members will join over zoom.  You are welcome to join either way.  For zoom\, please register here to receive the meeting details: \n\n \n \n Nonfiction Book Club Registration - January 2026\n \n \n your nameemail*\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Δ
