SUMMARY:VIRTUAL: Paintings of the American Revolution
DESCRIPTION:In celebration of America’s Semiquincentennial\, Mallory Mortillaro presents Paintings of the American Revolution. \nWe all know the story of the Revolutionary War\, but how much of our understanding is colored by the way the war was depicted by artists? Paintings of the American Revolution have been essential in the way that the war was understood\, both at the time of the conflict and for generations after. This lecture will explore well-known paintings such as Emanuel Leutze’s Washington Crossing the Delaware\, John Trumbull’s Declaration of Independence\, and Asher Durand’s The Capture of Major André. \nMallory Mortillaro is an art historian and educator. She has ten years of teaching experience and has worked on various art research projects for museums and organizations in the New York metropolitan area. She studied at Drew University. \nThis program will be held over Zoom.
