SUMMARY:Inhabitants: Indigenous Perspectives on Restoring our World - award-winning documentary
DESCRIPTION:The Bacon Free Library is partnering with the Natick Historical Society\, the Town of Natick’s Department of Sustainability and the Town of Natick’s Department of Community and Economic Development to bring you this award-winning documentary which follows five Native American communities as they restore their traditional land management practices in the face of a changing climate. For millennia Native Americans successfully stewarded and shaped their landscapes\, but centuries of colonization have disrupted their ability to maintain these processes. From deserts\, coastlines\, forests\, mountains\, and prairies\, Native communities across the US are restoring their ancient relationships with the land. The five stories include sustaining traditions of Hopi dryland farming in Arizona; restoring buffalo to the Blackfeet reservation in Montana; maintaining sustainable forestry on the Menominee reservation in Wisconsin; reviving native food forests in Hawaii; and returning prescribed fire to the landscape by the Karuk Tribe of California. As the climate crisis escalates\, these time-tested practices of North America’s original inhabitants are becoming increasingly essential in a rapidly changing world. \nPlease register below to view the film. DESCRIPTION:As the bigger kiddos head off to school\, here’s a chance for the little ones to learn their A-B-C’s.  \nWe’ll start with stories and songs that feature our letter of the week.  Then we’ll do some simple crafts with the special letter – tracing\, stamping\, cutting\, gluing\, and coloring.  \nAlso\, each child can bring something with them that starts with the letter of the week – we’ll do a mini show & tell along with stories.  This week’s letter is L.  \nIf it is 50 degrees or warmer\, we’ll do the stories & songs outside on the library lawn\, so bring a blanket or chair.  Look for us around back! \nIf it is rainy or less than 50 degrees\, the story time will be moved indoors. \nWith cold and flu season in full swing\, let’s share stories and not germs.
