Understanding the Ukrainian-Russian Conflict from a Cultural Perspective

February 3, 2022 @ 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm

As geopolitical tensions are rising in Eastern Europe and the full-fledged war between Russia and Ukraine is imminent, the media coverage focuses mainly on the political aspects of the contemporary crisis. Apart from ideological and political motivations, what is the cultural underpinning of the Russian-Ukrainian conflict?

Through the guidance of Russian Scholar Konstantin Starikov, PhD, MLIS, we will explore not only the political history of Eastern Europe but the implications of culture on politics.

Konstantin has earned a PhD in Slavic languages and literatures from Brown University as well as an MPhil in Slavic languages and literatures from Yale University.  He is a native speaker of Russian and is fluent in Ukrainian, and has taught Russian for more than 20 years.
