Meet Award-Winning Author & Illustrator R.W. Alley

May 10 @ 12:45 pm - 1:45 pm

Guest judge, illustrator Bob Alley, poses for a photo, as seen on Food Network’s Cake Wars, Season 3.

Join us for this very special visit from Theodor Seuss Geisel Honor Award-winning author and illustrator R.W. Alley! In addition to being an author and illustrator, R.W. Alley also is a passionate and engaged speaker on the writing and illustrating process – he will walk us through his process and experience of drawing the beloved Paddington Bear as well as other characters.

Book are available for pre-sale using the form found by clicking here. As there won’t be any books for sale on the day of the event, it is highly recommended that you purchase books via the pre-sale form and return it to the library by 4/25/19.

R.W Alley has illustrated well over a hundred and fifty books (this count being considerably expanded by a wonderful series of alphabet books, one for each letter). For the last twenty years, he has illustrated Michael Bond’s Paddington Bear books, in all their formats. The summer of 2018 saw the publication of Paddington’s newest picture book, Paddington at St Paul’s. Mr. Bond completed this lovely story just before he passed away in the summer of 2017.

In 2010, R.W. Alley received a Theodor Seuss Geisel Honor Award for the illustrations in Pearl and Wagner One Funny Day by Kate McMullan. He has also collaborated with his wife, the charming author Zoë B. Alley. Their work There’s A Wolf at the Door was selected as a Washington Post Best Book of the Year and its companion book of reinvented fairy tales, There’s a Princess in the Palace, received equally happy reviews. More recently, R.W. Alley collaborated with Garth Stein (and clever author Zoë B. Alley) to bring Enzo, the canine narrator of Garth’s The Art of Racing in the Rain, to full color life in four (to date) picture books. He has also returned to writing his own books with a series of four season titles about four siblings: Gretchen, Clark, Mitchell and Annabelle.
