Hands on Nature presents OWLS

September 16 @ 4:00 pm - 5:00 pm

OWLS and a few other big birds!

Presented by Hands on Nature:  We will learn about the local owls and other birds of prey.

Although there will be no live animals in this presentation we do have OWL PELLETS.  Heather will show us how to break into the pellet, how to examine it and what to look for.

Owl pellets are the regurgitated balls of the undigestable portions of an owls’ meals.  They might contain fur, bones, teeth, feathers, and insect shells.  We will provide one pellet to each registered family.  These pellets have been inspected for quality, heat treated and then wrapped for safe shipping and storage.

We’ll be using Zoom to conduct this lecture.  There will be a limit of 25 links for this program. For best appreciation, you should plan to pick up your owl pellet before the program starts.  They will be available starting the week before, Tuesday, September 8.

Use this form to register and request an owl pellet to dissect in your own home.  You will also want a tray to work from and some white paper to place your special finds.  A toothpick or 2 (or you could use a sharpish pencil) will be useful to move the delicate parts around.  This program is best for ages 6 and up.

We will provide 1 pellet per family.  Please keep the pellet wrapped until  the dissection portion begins.
